Baseball Falls to No. 3 Endicott, 14-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Senior Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) hit two of No. 3 Endicott's five home runs as the visiting Gulls earned a 14-3 non-conference victory over the MIT baseball team in eight innings on Wednesday afternoon at Fran O'Brien Field.

THE BASICS:

  • Score: Endicott 14, MIT 3 (8 inn.)
  • Records: Endicott (32-4 Overall), MIT (15-17 Overall)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • MacDougall started the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first inning as Endicott would go on to score in every inning except the sixth inning, pounding out 18 hits in the contest.
  • MIT took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out RBI double from senior Malachi Soqui (Castaic, Calif.).
  • Unfortunately, the lead was short lived for the Engineers, as Endicott tied the game with a TJ Liponis (Scarborough, Maine) sacrifice fly in the top of the second.
  • The Gulls added two more run in the top of the third thanks to a two run shot from Joey Frammartino (North Reading, Mass.).
  • Endicott scored three in the fourth, with MacDougall hitting his second home run of the game, and three in the fifth, including a two-RBI single back up the middle off the bat of Robbie Wladkowski (Norwood, Mass.).
  • Leading 10-2 as the game moved into the top of the seventh inning, the Gulls added two more runs thanks to a two-run home run from Liponis.
  • MIT extended the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an inside the park home run from junior Zev Moore (Jerusalem, Israel).
  • Endicott added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning as Wladkowski capped a 5-for-5 day at the dish with a two-run home run to left field.
  • Sophomore Jack Finnegan (Essex, Conn.) and Eitan Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) both reached base in the bottom of the eighth inning but MIT was unable to bring across a run as the Gulls closed out the game in eight inning.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Soqui remained hot at the plate for MIT, picking up his 11th hit in his last six games. He now has ten RBIs this week after driving eight on Tuesday and two on Wednesday.
  • MIT used eight pitchers in the contest, including an appearance from everyday right fielder Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) in the eighth inning.
  • Endicott has won 24 of its last 25 games including a pair of victories over the Engineers.
  • Wladkowski now leads Endicott with nine home runs on the season. Wladkowski and Frammartino each have 44 RBIs to lead the Gulls.
