Men's Tennis Defeats No. 22 NYU, 5-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's tennis team snapped No. 22 NYU's eight-match winning streak as the Engineers earned a 5-2 win on Sunday afternoon in the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 5, NYU 2 
  • Records: MIT (6-5 Overall), No. 22 NYU (8-2 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • MIT grabbed wins in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the first points of the day. Graduate student Kailas Kahler (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) won in two doubles, 6-3 with senior Ryan Xiao (Cary, N.C.) and sophomore Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) earning a 6-2 win in No. 3 doubles.  
  • Choudhary put MIT up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 4 singles while Philip Martin (Los Altos, Calif.) got the Violets on the board with a 6-3, 6-3 win in No. 2 singles. 
  • After dropping the first set 3-6, Kahler rallied to win the next two in No. 1 singles to give MIT a 3-1 and Siddharth Marathe (Pune, India) sealed the match for the Engineers with a 6-3, 7-6 win in No. 3 singles.  
  • Gallagher closed out the day for MIT with a 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (11-9) win in six singles.

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT returns to the courts on Wednesday, April 9 for a 3:00 PM match against Brandeis.
