CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 6 Wesleyan University generated 11 unanswered goals in the third quarter, putting it ahead for good as it went on to defeat MIT, 15-5, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Sunday afternoon at Jack Barry Field. Senior
Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) posted two goals and two draw controls for the Engineers while junior Elle Priesing (Scotch Plains, N.J.) tallied three goals and an assist for the Cardinals.
THE BASICS:
- Score: No. 6 Wesleyan 15, MIT 5

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Priesing opened the scoring with a free position goal just 1:06 into the game, however, Flusche redirected a feed from junior Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) four minutes later. Wesleyan went back in front after another Priesing goal which was set up by junior Dylan Green (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with 5:39 on the clock.
- MIT controlled the action in the second quarter as it recorded three goals, resulting in a 4-2 lead at halftime. Senior Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) connected on a pass from first-year Alexis Reinard (Nottingham, Pa.) for a player-advantage goal at the 11:40 mark. Over five minutes later Reinard found the back of the net as junior Annica Lam (Livingston, N.J.) increased the Engineers' cushion with 1:29 left.
- Priesing sparked the Cardinals' 11-goal run courtesy of a free position shot 1:10 into the third quarter and then she quickly earned the assist on senior Kiara Tangney's (Reading, Mass.) goal that evened the score at 4-4.
- Green followed by recording assists for goals by senior Sam DeLeo (Brewster, N.Y.) and junior Bridget Horst (Pomfret, Conn.), the latter proving to be the game-winning goal.
- Junior Addie Cummings's (Westfield, N.J.) second goal of the day moved the score to 14-4 at the 7:12 mark of the fourth quarter.
- Flusche ended MIT's scoring drought with a player-advantage goal that was set up by Thomas with 5:22 remaining.
- Wesleyan provided the final goal of the game, a player-advantage blast from first-year Sabrina Katz (Scarsdale, N.Y.) with 3:14 on the clock.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- This was the first meeting between both programs.
- Thomas had two assists as Reinard totaled one goal, one assist, and two draw controls.
- First-year Kelsey Dwyer (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) posted three groundballs and one caused turnover while junior Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) collected three groundballs.
- In net, sophomore Pauline Vien (Brookline, Mass.) corralled 13 saves and three groundballs.
- Tangney registered three goals, three groundballs, and three caused turnovers as Nelson dished out three assists.
- Junior Kyra Browne (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) recorded six draw controls while DeLeo added four groundballs and two caused turnovers.
- In net, junior Izzy Weintraub (Oceanside, N.Y.) made four saves in 45 minutes as sophomore April Rowe (Warwick, R.I.) turned away one shot down the stretch.

- Both teams resume conference play on the road on Wednesday, April 9 at 6:00 PM. MIT will visit NEWMAC rival No. 6 Babson College while Wesleyan will travel to NESCAC foe No. 15 Trinity College.
