BABSON PARK, Mass. – A seven-goal run that spanned the second and third quarters put No. 2 seed Babson College ahead for good as it topped No. 3 MIT, 17-13, in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Men's Lacrosse Championship on Thursday night. Junior
Garrett Campagna (Lancaster, Pa.) tallied four goals and three assists for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter was a high-scoring affair that saw MIT create a 6-4 lead. Junior Zach Bleil (New Canaan, Conn.) produced the first goal of the game after 1:07 expired and then both teams traded goals until the Engineers registered back-to-back strikes at the end of the period. Campagna posted two goals and an assist while classmate CJ Sanchez (New Rochelle, N.Y.) earned two assists, the last coming on a blast by junior Bryce Metalios (Old Greenwich, Conn.) with 35 seconds remaining.
- Babson had the upper hand in the second quarter as it outscored the Engineers, 6-0, and took a 10-6 advantage heading into halftime.
- The Beavers scored 57 seconds into the third quarter, however, man-up goals from graduate student Jack McCordic (Medfield, Mass.) and senior Nick Stiles (New Canaan, Conn.) narrowed the gap to 11-8 at the 4:23 mark. Babson countered with two quick goals in the next two minutes to create some breathing room.
- The fourth quarter featured back-and-forth scoring that saw MIT hold a 5-4 edge and resulted in the 17-13 final. Campagna was a factor in four goals as he found the back of the net twice and recorded assists on strikes from Stiles and Metalios.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Stiles registered a hat trick as Sanchez finished with one goal and two assists.
- Graduate student Andrew Palleiko (Hopkinton, Mass.) corralled five groundballs, followed by three from senior Dylan Nelson (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.), sophomore Ashton Axe (Portola Valley, Calif.), and senior Patrick Timons (Woodside, Calif.).
- Timons added a caused turnover while sophomore Stone Smith (Roswell, Ga.) generated two of his own.
- In net, junior Collin Lung (Lynbrook, N.Y.) made seven saves.
STAY CONNECTED:
