Softball Falls to Gettysburg on NCAA Regional Day Two; Adkison Records 200th Career Hit

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Senior Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) recorded her 200th career hit, however, the MIT softball team fell to host Gettysburg, 9-4, on Friday afternoon in the NCAA Regional semifinals.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Gettysburg 9, MIT 4 
  • Records: MIT (29-11 Overall), Gettysburg (40-6) 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bullets jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first with a single from Renee Laczkowski (Erie, Colo.).  
  • MIT responded in the bottom with three runs. Junior Ava Ladd (Austin, Texas) singled home first year Layla Thiessen (Carlsbad, Calif.) to tie the game and junior Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) knocked in two more runs with a single to rightfield.  
  • Gettysburg regained the lead with three runs in the third and two more in the fourth to go up 6-3. 
  • Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) hit a single to left center and came around to score on a single from first year Maggie Feng (Brookfield, Wis.). Feng then stole second and went to third on a single from classmate Delaney Benevides (Plainville, Mass.). Benevides stole third, but the Engineers were unable to get another run across.  
  • Gettysburg added three more runs in the seventh to make it a 9-4 game.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Adkison finished 1-2 with a walk and run scored and is just the second player in program history to record 200 career hits. 
  • Ladd and Feng led MIT with two hits each in the game. 
  • Junior Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) suffered her third loss of the season. Sophomore Sharona Huang (Duluth, Ga.) threw the final two innings and allowed one hit and got one strikeout.   

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will face an elimination game tomorrow, Saturday, May 17 against the winner of Ramapo and John Jay. That game will begin at approximately 1:15 PM with the winner then taking on Gettysburg at 3:30 PM.
