HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE:

  • The Engineers batted around in the first, scoring five runs. Junior Arianna Kumar (San Diego, Calif.) knocked in senior Mikayla Cable (Valrico, Fla.) with a groundout for the first run. Senior Kennedy Adkison (San Jose, Calif.) followed with a two-RBI single to center. The next four MIT batters singled, with hits from first years Delaney Benevides (Plainville, Mass.) and Layla Thiessen (Carlsbad, Calif.) scoring runs.
  • Cable plated Benevides with an RBI single in the third to increase the MIT lead to 6-0.
  • Coast Guard strung together back-to-back two-out singles in the third, but junior Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) got the final out to keep the Bears off the board.
  • MIT put up another five-spot in the fifth inning to help secure the 12-0 win. The Engineers took advantage of back-to-back Bears errors to score two runs. Junior Ava Ladd (Austin, Texas) knocked in the 10th run on a single into right center. First year Maggie Feng (Brookfield, Wis.) would double home two more runs and Adkison closed out the scoring with an RBI single to left center to make it 12-0.
  • Langmeyer worked around a one-out single in the fifth to secure the shutout win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Langmeyer improves to 14-2 with her fourth shutout and 11th complete game. She allowed just five hits and one walk.
  • Ladd led the way for MIT going 3-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Cable, Adkison, senior Becca O'Connor (San Antonio, Texas), and Benevides all had two hits in the game. Adkison knocked in a team-high three runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO:

  • Bivin got MIT on the board with an RBI single to score Thiessen in the first. Coast Guard took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning on a double from Bridget Bartz (Arlington, Va.) and a single from Dana Walker (Macon, Va.).
  • The Bears had the bases loaded with no outs in the second but first year Sarah Blackett (St. Petersburg, Fla.) got the next three outs to keep it a one-run game.
  • Ladd got the Engineers even with an RBI double in the third.
  • The Bears put up five runs in fourth to go up 7-2.

  • Coast Guard got a run back in the fifth, but a double from Olivia Scarpaci (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the Engineers back to within two at 8-6.
