WORCESTER, Mass. — The MIT women's openweight crew team captured gold in the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four Grand Finals but worsening weather, heavy chop and overall difficult conditions forced the cancelation of multiple races on Saturday at the New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond.

THE BASICS:

• V8+: 1st of 6 in Grand Final
• V4+ 1st of 6 in Grand Final
• 2V8+: Grand Final Canceled
• 2V4+: Grand Final Canceled

RACE BY RACE: 

• V8+: The Engineers entered as the top seed and posted the top time in the opening heats, winning heat one with a time of 6:58.690. The Engineers advanced to the Grand Final where MIT and Tufts separated from the rest of the pack. In the end, it was MIT that took gold in 7:53.948 with Tufts in second in 7:56.838. 
• V4+ Grand Final: MIT ran away from the field in the Women's Varsity Four Grand Final, capturing gold in 8:50.862. Amherst was section in 8:57.156.
• 2V8+: The MIT 2V advanced to the Grand Final with a win in its first heat, finishing in 7:16.508 to outdistance second place Williams (7:21.074). MIT advanced to the Grand Final with the second fastest time but the Grand Final was canceled.
• 2V4+: The Women's Second Varsity Four Grand Final was canceled.
