PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — Racing for medals in the Men's Lightweight Varsity 8+ Grand Final for the first time since 1993, the MIT men's lightweight crew Varsity 8+ recorded a program-best finish at the IRA National Championship, winning the bronze medal on Sunday on the Cooper River.
Following racing, the men's lightweight crew program was also awarded the Rusty Callow Award, voted by the head coaches of the EARC and presented each year for the sprints crew that best personifies the virtues of "spirit, courage, and unity."

- V8+: Harvard claimed its 11th IRA lightweight eight national title with a wire-to-wire victory in the Grand Final. The Crimson held off a challenge from Dartmouth as Harvard, Dartmouth, MIT and Penn were all running together through the first 500m. Dartmouth took control of second place through 1000m, with Penn moving up to third and, Princeton taking fourth and MIT following in fifth. However, the Engineers made a big move over the next 500m, overtaking Penn and Princeton to seize control of third place behind Dartmouth and Harvard. The Engineers then held off Penn over the final 500m to claim bronze in 5:34.390. Penn was a half second back in fourth in 5:34.910. Dartmouth was second in 5:32.250 with Harvard in first in 5:29.620. Princeton took fifth and Navy was sixth.
