Men’s Heavyweight Crew, Women’s Openweight Crew Compete at Henley Royal Regatta Qualifying; Women’s Varsity 8+ Qualifies for Island Challenge Cup

HENLEY-ON-THAMES, England — The MIT men's heavyweight and women's openweight crew teams represented the Institute on Friday during qualifying for the Henley Royal Regatta 2025 on the River Thames in Henley-On-Thames, England. MIT's openweight women's varsity 8+ advanced from qualifying and will compete in "the best-known regatta in the world" next week.

RACE BY RACE:

Women's 4-: The Women's 4- finished 5th in the Town Challenge Cup Qualifying Race in a field loaded with Senior and U23 National team athletes from numerous countries. The 4- placed behind Cornell and ahead of Leander "B", the top rowing club's in the UK, by 6 seconds.
Women's 8+: The Women's 8+ was one of 13 crews to qualify for the regatta out of the Island Challenge Cup Qualifying Race time trial, they will race in the first round of the Island Challenge Cup on Wednesday.
Men's 4+: The Men's 4+ did not qualify for the Prince Albert Challenge Cup. MIT finished behind Imperial College London 'A' but nine seconds ahead of University of Bristol 'B'.
