Baseball’s Estrada Selected by Los Angeles Dodgers in Seventh Round of 2025 MLB Draft

ATLANTA – MIT baseball sophomore Mason Estrada (Covington, La.) was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the seventh round of the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft on Monday.

The Dodgers selected Estrada with the 225th overall pick in the MLB draft. The 2025 MLB Draft is being held as part of MLB's All-Star week festivities in Atlanta, Georgia.

A first team ABCA and D3Baseball.com All-Region and NEWMAC All-Conference selection in 2025, Estrada becomes the fifth MIT baseball student-athlete to be selected in the MLB Draft and the first since 2017. He finished the 2025 season with a 6-0 record as a starter, recording 66 strikeouts and a 2.21 ERA over 40.2 innings pitched. Estrada's 14.61 strikeouts per nine innings ranked second in all of NCAA Division III.

Estrada becomes the fifth overall selection and the highest drafted MIT player in program history. MIT had two student-athletes selected in the 2017 MLB Draft, as the Chicago Cubs selected Austin Filiere '17 in the eighth round and David Hesslink '17 was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 34th round. Jason Szuminski '00 was selected in the 27th round of the 2000 draft by the San Diego Padres and Alan Dopfel '72 was selected in the 1972 draft by the California Angels.

Estrada will hope to follow in the footsteps of Szuminski, who was the first MIT student-athlete to make a major league appearances as a pitcher for the Padres in 2004.
