AUSTIN, Texas – Senior
Patrick Xinyi Liu (Brookline, Mass.) of men's fencing and junior
Adam Ivatorov (Rockaway, N.Y.) of men's water polo represented MIT on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Division III Men's At-Large Team. Liu, a two-time honoree, was selected to the First Team while Ivatorov was voted to the Third Team.
Liu, a second team pick in 2023, collected the seventh award in the history of the men's fencing program and joined Joey Rafidi '14 as the only two-time recipients. Competing in epee, he compiled a 38-25 overall record, a 10-2 mark in Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC), and ranked 17
th at the 2025 NCAA Northeast Regional. Liu was tabbed to the NFC Epee All-Star First Team, the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Epee Division III Northeast All-Region Team, the USFCA Epee Division III All-America Honorable Mention Team, and the NFC Academic All-Conference Team.
Liu graduated with a degree in computer science and will be a software engineering intern at Roblox before pursuing a master's degree in mechanical engineering at MIT. He previously conducted research in the MIT Media Lab and was a learning assistant, tutor, and grader in the MIT Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. Liu was the president and treasurer of the MIT Asian American Association and served as the Director of Internal Consultant Development and Case Team Lead for the MIT Consulting Group.
Ivatorov became the sixth student-athlete in program history to be named an Academic All-American. He generated 96 goals this past season, which ranks second all-time and is three more than his tally from 2023 which stands third. Ivatorov is a two-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American and a two-time ACWPC Academic Outstanding Honors recipient. In addition, he earned a spot on the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) All-Conference Second Team the past two seasons.
Out of the pool Ivatorov will be the MIT Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president for the 2025-26 year and is the founder and president of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. He led the reaffiliation search across 400+ national fraternities, executing a six-stage interview process to evaluate organizational fit. Ivatorov interned at Bain and Company and Collins Aerospace (Raytheon) and is a researcher at the MIT Media Lab.
The Academic All-America Teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in their sport and in the classroom. Sports included in the men's at-large program are fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo, and wrestling. MIT is the all-time leader across all divisions in producing CSC Academic All-Americas with 458 honors.
