Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Motupally's Goals Helps Give Men's Soccer 3-1 Win Over Wentworth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Shikhar Motupally came off the bench to score two quick goals that gave the MIT men's soccer team a 3-1 victory over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday night on Roberts Field.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 3, Wentworth 1 
  • Records: MIT (2-3-1 Overall, 0-0-0 NEWMAC), Wentworth (0-4-3, 0-1-0 CNE) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • David Lemus saw his shot saved by Paolo Mangiafico, but the rebound went right to the far corner where Dylan Michaud collected the ball and tapped it back to Lemus who lifted a shot into the far upper corner of the net at 27:38. 
  • Two quick goals from Shikhar Motupally just over three minutes apart gave the Engineers the lead. Motupally broke through the Leopards' defense on both scores for his first goals of the season. His first score to tie the match came at 33:13 while the game winner came at 36:27. 
  • Motupally then tapped a pass to Dilin Meloni whose shot got past two Leopards defenders and a diving Isaac Chambass for the goal at 50:11. 
  • The Leopards and Engineers exchanged scoring chances in the half, but both defenses held strong as MIT took the 3-1 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • This is the third two-goal game of Motupally's career. The five points are a new career-high. 
  • Meloni scored his second goal of the season as he and Motupally lead the team with five points. 
  • Mangiafico notched his second win of the season with four saves in the game. Chambass fell to 0-3-1 with five saves. 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers kick-off NEWMAC play on Saturday, September 20 when they welcome WPI to Roberts Field for a 3:30 PM contest. The Leopards will travel to Curry College for an 11AM start on Saturday.
