Men's Soccer Plays WPI to 0-0 Draw

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's soccer team earned a 0-0 tie against WPI on Saturday afternoon on Roberts Field on Saturday afternoon. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 0, WPI 0 
  • Records: MIT (2-3-2 Overall, 0-0-1 NEWMAC), WPI (2-2-3, 0-0-1 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The best scoring chance from either team came with time winding down in the first half as the shot by Dilin Meloni rang just off the far post as the half ended tied at zero. 
  • Eric Ye had a good look early in the second half but sailed his shot wide of the goal. Woods Windham had a chance for the Engineers at 58:29 but Floris Huiskers made the save to keep MIT off the board. 
  • WPI went down the field where Mike Montabana saw his shot turned away by Paolo Mangiafico at 60:13.  
  • Mangiafico got caught out of the net as WPI had a wide-open goal with a chance to take the lead, but Charles Lai raced to the goal and turned away the WPI shot attempt. 
  • Windham saw another scoring chance turned away by Huiskers, and a shot at 88:30 by Keegan Harrison rang off the post.  
  • After a late yellow on the home team, WPI had a chance to win the game on the free kick, but the attempt was not successful as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Mangiafico made three saves and is now 2-3-2 on the year. Huiskers turned away six shots to move to 0-2-1. 
  • WPI earned seven corner kicks to MIT's six. MIT outshot WPI 12-9.   

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT remains on Roberts Field as the Engineers will host Suffolk in a 6:00 PM contest on Wednesday, September 24. WPI will play at Wentworth on Tuesday, September 23 at 6:00 PM.
