CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 12 MIT defeated Bowdoin College, 25-18, 25-20, 25-14, in a non-conference women's volleyball match on Friday night in Rockwell Cage. Ella Zhou led all players with 18 kills on 31 errorless attempts for a .581 hitting percentage and added eight digs for the Engineers. THE BASICS:
  • Score: No. 12 MIT 3, Bowdoin 0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-14)
  • Records: No. 12 MIT (8-2 Overall); Bowdoin (5-4 Overall)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Set 1: MIT inched out to an 8-2 lead after a kill by Jessie Trapp. Bowdoin battled back, coming within one point on three occasions, the last at 12-11 on a kill by Haley Campau. A kill from Eileen Sadati coupled with a hitting error by the visitors created some breathing room as the Engineers reached set point at 24-17 courtesy of a serving error. A Campau kill extended the frame, however, a kill by Zhou secured the win.
  • Set 2: MIT won the first three points and later established a 20-12 advantage following a kill by Kayleigh May. Despite the deficit the Polar Bears continued to attack as an ace from LaMendola narrowed the gap to 23-19. A miscue gave the hosts set point, but a serving error kept Bowdoin alive. The Engineers countered with a kill from Claire Underwood to clinch the 25-20 victory.
  • Set 3: MIT jumped out to a 7-2 lead and maintained a comfortable cushion as it captured a 25-14 win courtesy of an ace by Daphne Gavros.
