MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- MIT men's cross country junior Yichen Sun has been named the NEWMAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending September 21, 2025. The award is the first of Sun's career.

Sun was the top finisher for the No. 16-ranked MIT Engineers at Saturday's 8k Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan (CT). Sun finished in third place with a time of 24:43.4, as MIT tied with the host Cardinals at the top of the team leaderboard. MIT ultimately took second place thanks to a tiebreaker.

Next up, Sun and MIT will race at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on Friday, October 3.
