Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Road NEWMAC Contest to Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, CT. – A goal late in the first half by Ayden Kim proved to be the game winner as the United States Guard Academy held off the MIT men's soccer team for a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Coast Guard 1, MIT 0 
  • Records: MIT (2-5-2 Overall, 0-1-1 NEWMAC), Coast Guard (5-2-2, 1-0-1 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Bears offense had control in the first half, taking nine shots to the Engineers one. Paolo Mangiafico kept Coast Guard off the board with four saves in the half before Kim broke the scoreless tie at 43:36.  
  • The Engineer offense flipped the script in the second half in search of the tying goal. Shikhar Motupally and Peter Jedlicka had shots go wide while Chase Carroll had his shot saved by Samuel Linkous early in the half.  
  • Woods Windham had two scoring opportunities turned away by Linkous as the Bears held on for the 1-0 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Bears held a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 6-3 advantage on shots on goal. The host also earned six corners to the Engineers three.  
  • Mangiafico turned away five shots and it now 2-4-2 on the season. Linkous is now 3-1-0 on the season. 
  • Kim scored his first goal of the season. 

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT will remain on the road for a non-conference tilt against Endicott on Tuesday, September 30 beginning at 7:00 PM. The Bears will also play a non-conference match on Tuesday as they head to Western New England for a 4:00 PM match.
