Men's Soccer and Endicott Play to Scoreless Draw

BEVERLY, Mass. – The MIT men's soccer team played Endicott to a 0-0 tie in a road non-conference tilt on Tuesday night at Hempstead Stadium. 

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 0, Endicott 0 
  • Records: MIT (2-5-3 Overall, 0-1-1 NEWMAC), Endicott (5-3-1 Overall, 3-1-0 CNE) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The MIT offense controlled the first 45 minutes of play, out shooting the Gulls 14-1, however the Engineers were able to only put three shots on target, two of which were saved by Brady O'Toole.  
  • Chase Carroll had a scoring opportunity at 8:36 but his shot was turned away by the Gulls defense. 
  • Endicott turned the tide a bit in the second half, as they held a 6-4 margin in shots in the second half.  
  • After Carroll saw another shot turned away in the 74th minute, the Gulls looked to break through, but the shot by Liam Stapleton to the lower center of the goal was saved by Hernando Ardila as the game ended in a scoreless draw. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • This is the second scoreless draw for the Engineers this season. 
  • Ardila turned away three shots to move to 0-1-1 while O'Toole made four saves and is now 5-3-1. 
  • MIT held an 18-7 advantage in shots and a slight 4-3 advantage in shots on goals. The Engineers also earned five corner kicks while the Gulls took none during the 90 minutes of play.  

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will return to Roberts Field for a 1:00 PM NEWMAC contest against Springfield on Saturday, October 4. The Gulls will head to Johnson and Wales on Saturday for a 3:00 PM contest.
