Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Suffers Non-Conference Road Setback to No. 15 Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – No. 15 Tufts got five goals in the second half to secure an 8-1 win over the MIT men's soccer team on Wednesday night on Bello Field. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Tufts 8, MIT 1 
  • Records: MIT (1-2-0 Overall, 0-0-0 NEWMAC), No. 15 Tufts (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NESCAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Jumbos got on the scoreboard just over two minutes into the game when Mateo Bargagna lifted a pass to the front of the cage to Taylor Feinberg who headed the ball right to Ben Pensky for the header score. 
  • William Cornog sent a pass to Will Nicholas who got the ball to Ben Ortman for the cross-cage score at 40:58 as Ortman went to the low left corner for his first goal of the season. 
  • Tufts got their third goal of their game on an own goal at 42:43.  
  • The Engineers took advantage of a set piece initiated by Dilin Meloni just under four minutes into the second half. Meloni lifted the free kick cross field to Woods Windham who was able to head the ball to the front of the cage where Eric Lohse got his foot on the ball and put it past a diving Nikola Antic at 48:23. 
  • Tufts regained its three-goal lead with a score from Bargana at 55:23. Henry Brown made it a 5-1 Jumbos lead with a penalty kick goal at 65:03. 
  • The Jumbos scored three more times to account for an 8-1 final score. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Ortman and Gianluca Fallone finished with two goals a piece for Tufts. 
  • Paolo Mangiafico made seven stops in goal for MIT. 
  • Lohse tallied his first career goal as an Engineer while Windham recorded his first point
UP NEXT: 
  • MIT is back on the pitch, Saturday, September 6 for a 4:00 PM home contest against Gordon. The Jumbos will host Williams in a top-25 matchup on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
