Roger Williams Slips by Men's Soccer, 2-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Two early first half goals by visiting Roger Williams gave them a 2-1 victory over the MIT men's soccer team on Tuesday night on Roberts Field.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Roger Williams 2, MIT 1 
  • Records: MIT (1-3-0 Overall, 0-0-0 NEWMAC), Roger Williams (3-0-1 Overall, 1-0-0 CNE) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when a header from Tyler Jastrab off a crossing pass from Dylan Robbins got past Paolo Mangiafico just 2:31 into the first half. 
  • MIT responded quickly when Woods Windham got the rebound off the crossbar from a shot by Dilin Meloni and sent the ball into the goal at 5:20 to tie the score. 
  • Roger Williams regained the lead when Liam Blaisdell collected the ball in front of the goal and put it into the back center of the net at 27:53. 
  • The Engineers had chances to convert off free kicks, but attempts by Meloni and Shikhar Motupally sailed high.  
  • Both teams had scoring chances in the second half, but neither could convert as Roger Williams took the 2-1 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Hawks held a slight advantage in shots (10-9) but had seven corner kicks while the Engineers failed to earn any. Roger Williams also put six shots on target to MIT's two. 
  • Mangiafico falls to 1-3 with four saves. TJ Machowski improved to 2-0 as he made two stops in goal. 
  • Windham scored his first collegiate goal. 
  • Jastrab and Blaisdell both scored their first goals of the season.  

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers remain at Roberts Field as they host Brandeis on Saturday, September 13 at 12:00 PM. Roger Williams is also back in action on Saturday as they will travel to MCLA for a 1:00 PM match.
