BOSTON, Mass. — Nolan Clement captured the 60m dash while Enoch Ellis was fifth in the 60m Hurdles and Justin Buonato led the way in the shot put and the weight toss as the MIT men's track and field team hosted the Gordon Kelly Invitational on Saturday at the Johnson Athletic Center.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 60m Hurdles: Ellis took fifth with a time of 8.58 in the final after placing seventh overall in 8.55 seconds in the prelims. Ellis was one of three Engineers in the event as Stan Nicole finished just shy of the final in 11th place thanks to a time of 8.77.
- 60m: Clement won in 6.85 with teammate Patrick Haertel placing third with a time of 6.95.
- 200m: Rookie Adam Eisdorfer recorded a PR of 23.34 to finish eighth overall. Classmate Theo Orfanou was 37th with a PR of 24.42.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- Shot Put: Justin Buonato finished seventh with a throw of 13.53m (44'4.75") on his first attempt. Leon Schultz had a throw of 12.05m (39'6.25") on his first attempt for 22nd.
- Weight Throw: Buonato was also MIT's top finisher in the weight throw with a toss of 16.23m (53'3") to take fourth.
- Pole Vault: Leo Sun cleared 4.50m to take fourth.
- High Jump: Anthony Meng placed second with a mark of 1. 96m (6'5"), clearing the height on his second attempt.
- Triple Jump: Sawyer Quallen was fifth with a mark of 13.00m (42'8") on his second attempt.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Clement and Haertel in the 60m, Sun in the pole vault, and Buonato in the weight throw recorded automatic NED3 qualifying marks.
- Clement moved up to 15th in the 60m dash national rankings.
