BOSTON, Mass. — David Whitaker and Jared Steins both moved to the top of the national rankings in the 800m as the MIT men's track and field team competed on Saturday at the John Thomas Terrier Classic at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 200m (Invite): Nolan Clement finished 27th with an effort of 22.66 seconds.
- 200m (Open): Davin Li's PR of 22.30 helped him lead MIT with a 32nd place finish. Classmate Chidubem Chukwu was 45th with a PR of 22.41.
- 400m (Open): Davis Lee finished in 49.62 to earn a 17th place finish. Kristian Praizner and Connor Sterling also finished inside the top 40, taking 35th (50.03) and 38th (50.19), respectively.
- 800m (Open): Steins put down a top ten time, hitting an NED# qualifying mark with a PR of 1:51.30.
- 800m (Invite): Whitaker followed Steins as MIT continued to impress in the 800, running a time of 1:50.06, an NED3 qualifying mark and a PR.
- Mile: Steins added another PR in the mile, registering an NED3 qualifier in 4:12.62.
- 3000m: Dylan Fiegener's PR of 8:16.67 earned him an automatic NED3 qualifying mark and a 70th place finish. Fiegener was just ahead of Tim Neumann, who also registered an NED3 qualifying mark in 8:17.11 to finish 73rd.
- 5000m: Yichen Sun earned an NED3 qualifying mark in his first appearance of the indoor season, finishing 59th in 14:48.74.
- 4x400m Relay: Sterling, Lee, Ayman Noreldaim and Wyatt Vick closed out the meet with a 13th place finish in the 4x400m relay, recording a time of 3:20.82.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS - National Indoor Qualifying List:
- Whitaker's time in the 800m moves him to the top of the 800m nationally list with Steins right behind him in fourth place.
- Steins' PR in the mile now also has him ranked 35th nationally in the event.
- Fiegener is now inside the top 20 in the 3000m, ranking 19th nationally. MIT has two of the top 20 in the event, as Tim Neumann ranks 5th thanks to his effort at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
- Sun's debut in the 5000m is the 33rd ranked time in the nation this season.
- MIT's 4x4 of Sterling, Lee, Noreldaim and Vick is also 33rd on the national relay rankings.
