HARTFORD, Conn. – A 4-of-6 performance at the free throw line during the final 21 seconds of regulation helped the MIT women's basketball team pull away for a 59-55 victory over No. 15 Trinity College on Tuesday night. One of four players to reach double-digits in scoring,
April Chan produced 14 points, including the final three free throws of the game, to go along with four assists and four rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A layup by Brianna Lebrun kicked off a 14-5 run that featured a string of 12 unanswered points which gave MIT a 24-20 lead at end of the opening frame.
- A putback from Riley O'Sullivan increased the Engineers' cushion after 1:40 elapsed in the second quarter. However, Trinity chipped away at the deficit and evened the score at 28 with 4:49 on the clock. Three ties and a lead change followed until two free throws resulted in a 36-34 halftime edge for the Bantams.
- The third quarter was another tight affair as there were five ties and three lead changes. A pair of free throws by Chan put the Engineers in front, 47-46, with 44 seconds left in the period.
- A free throw and then a three pointer from Ruth Lanouette created some breathing room for MIT at the 6:33 mark, but Trinity replied with a six-point burst that resulted in a 52-51 lead midway through the fourth quarter. Mary Lobon countered with a jumper during the Engineers' next trip down the court.
- The score remained unchanged until Lanouette's driving layup with 1:47 remaining increased the Engineers' margin to 55-52. After an exchange of possessions, Lobon drained a free throw with 21 seconds left to play.
- Following a turnover, Chan converted her first attempt at the charity stripe, moving the score to 57-52 with 13 seconds to go. The Bantams knocked down a three pointer with 2.5 seconds on the clock, but Chan secured the victory with two more free throws.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Lanouette paced MIT with 17 points and grabbed a game-high five steals while pulling down six rebounds.
- Lobon finished with 11 points, a game-high nine rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
- O'Sullivan recorded 10 points and seven rebounds as Lebrun generated eight rebounds and two blocks.
- Rachael Zacks contributed six rebounds for the Engineers.
