No. 5 Women's Soccer Takes 5-0 Win Over Clark

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 5 MIT women's soccer team continued its NEWMAC unbeaten streak with a 5-0 victory over Clark on Wednesday night on Roberts Field.

THE BASICS:

  • Score: MIT 5, Clark 0
  • Records: No. 5 MIT (12-2-1 Overall, 6-0-0 NEWMAC), Clark (6-4-1 Overall, 2-3-1 NEWMAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Madelyn Popilek sent a throw-in to Arianna Doss who settled the ball at the back post near the end line and sent a pass to the front where Molly Mascardo put the shot just under the crossbar for the goal just 4:30 into the match.
  • Ayla Sumer got the ball away from Clark around midfield and raced down the far sideline where she found Doss close in the box. Doss then sent the ball back to Sumer who lifted her shot over Gabrielle Huryn at 15:29.
  • The Cougars had their best scoring chance off a free kick. Madeleine Reeves had her shot saved by Maddy Noll. With the ball loose in front, Caroline Knecht had her shot blocked before the Engineer defense cleared the ball out of their zone.
  • Angela Zheng found a streaking Arianna Chin at 73:01 for the third goal of the match. Chin took the pass in front, got around her defenders and put the ball into the center of the goal.
  • Andrea Cummings sent a one-touch pass to Chloe Dai who rifled a shot past Huryn from just inside the 15-yard line at 83:35.
  • With time winding down in the match, Cummings sent a looping pass from the 30-yard line to Amara Ukomadu who beat Huryn one-on-one with 22 seconds left.
