CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The MIT men's heavyweight crew team placed well at the 2026 Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River. The team raced in beautiful fall conditions with low wind and an abundance of sunshine.

The MIT 1V finished fifth overall, just one spot out of a medal, as both the MIT 1V and 2V had to pass multiple crews while starting in the middle of the pack, with coxswains Maddie Taylor and Blake O'Donnell steering terrific courses.

"I am incredibly proud of the team today," said first-year Head Coach Evan Thews-Wassell. "A result like this from our top two eights shows that we are on the right track to be competitive with the teams we will need to beat to earn a spot at the IRA national championship in the spring. The season is long, but we know what we are doing is working."
