Women’s Basketball Falls to Bryant, 75-25, in Season-Opening Exhibition

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – April Chan totaled nine points, five rebounds, and two assists as the MIT women's basketball team dropped a season-opening exhibition, 75-25, at Division I Bryant University on Monday night at the Chace Athletic Center.

THE BASICS:
  • Score: Bryant 75, MIT 25 (Exhibition)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sammie Faella opened the scoring with a trey just one minute into the game and she later drained a layup that gave MIT a 5-4 edge at the 7:09 mark. After an exchange of possessions, a layup put Bryant ahead for good as it ended the quarter with a 20-7 advantage.
  • The Bulldogs continued to pull away in the second stanza as they entered the intermission with a 39-8 lead.
  • The Engineers ended their scoring drought from the floor when Chan buried a three pointer with 4:01 left in the third quarter, but the hosts ended the frame with a 57-13 margin.
  • The majority of the fourth quarter was a balanced affair as both teams generated 12 points. Faella's put-back with 4:15 remaining proved to be MIT's final basket of the night while Bryant recorded three layups during the last 1:48 of action.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: UP NEXT:
  • MIT will play Suffolk University on Saturday, November 7 at 5:30 PM in the Lafrance Hospitality Tournament at UMass Dartmouth.
