CAMBRIDGE/MEDFORD, Mass. — Senior Nolan Clement set a new MIT men's track and field program record in the 60m as the Engineers competed on Saturday at the Harvard Crimson Open and at the Tufts Cupid Challenge at Gnatcher Field House.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 60m (Harvard): Clement advanced to the final with a time of 6.82 seconds in the prelims before setting a new MIT program record in 6.79 to take fifth in the final. Patrick Haertel just missed the final, finishing ninth in 6.89 as both Haertel and Clement registered NED3 automatic qualifiers.
- 200m (Harvard): Davin Li, Jack Wang and Haertel all finished inside the top 10 with Li leading the way in fourth place (22.28). Wang was 6th (22.53) and Haertel took 9th (22.80).
- 60m Hurdles: Enoch Ellis ran 8.21 in the prelims to secure a spot in the final. Ellis improved one spot in the final heat, earning seventh with a time of 8.26. Both times were automatic NED3 qualifying times.
- Mile (Tufts): Hunter Miller was 41st in the mile at the Tufts Cupid Challenge in 4:51.97.
- 5000m (Tufts): MIT dominated the 5K at Tufts, with Luke Rupert, Owen Sondag and Yichen Sun finishing in the top five with automatic NED3 qualifying marks. Rupert was the runner-up with a 14:50.27 PR. Sondag was third in 14:52.70 and Sun took 4th in 14:55.41.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events (Harvard):
- High Jump: Anthony Meng secured third place and an NED3 qualifier by clearing 2.03m (6' 7.75"). Meng made the height on his final attempt after clearing both 1.93m and 1.98m.
- Pole Vault (Invite): Jaden McKee finished in the top 10 thanks to a mark of 4.60m (15' 1"). McKee cleared the bar on his third attempt while also earning an automatic NED3 qualifier.
- Pole Vault (Open): Sawyer Garrett and Ethan Soderbloom with cleared 4.30m (14' 1.25"), with Garrett clearing the height on his first attempt and Soderbloom clearing it on his second attempt.
- Long Jump: Sean Huckleberry posted an NED3 automatic qualifier with a 4th place finish, jumping 14.06m (46' 1.5"). He was one of three Engineers in the top ten along with Fischer Argosino in 7th (13.50m) and Sawyer Quallen in 8th(13.47m). Argosino's mark was also an NED3 qualifier.
- Shot Put: Justin Buonato secured 11th place and an NED3 qualifying mark with an effort of 14.33m
- Weight Throw: Leon Schultz was the top MIT finisher in 19th with a mark of 13.59m (44'7").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Clement is now 11th nationally in the 60m. Haertel moved to 43rd in the same event with his effort.
- Ellis is up to 23rd in the 60m Hurdles following his preliminary time on Saturday.
- Huckleberry made is debut in the triple jump rankings, moving to 45th nationally.
