CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 6 MIT men's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2026 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship with a victory in the 800 Free Relay on Thursday night at the Zesiger Center Pool. 

STANDINGS:  

1. Springfield – 105 Points 
2. Babson – 91 Points 
3. MIT – 89 Points 

HOW IT HAPPENED:    

• 800 Free Relay: MIT took the top spot after finishing second last year. Evan Wong led off with a time of 1:38.86 followed by Gidean Karp with a time of 1:39.22. Grant Hu swam his leg in 1:37.90 while Nathan Kim anchored the team with a time of 1:41.76 to finish with a total time of 6:37.74.  
• 3-Meter Dive: Jack Tucker took third overall with a score of 400.53. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

• Hu and Karp were both members of last year's second-place team.  
• This is Hu's third all-conference nod and Karp's second.
• Wong and Kim recorded their first all-conference accolades.
• The 800 Free Relay team hit an NCAA B Cut time.  

UP NEXT:    

• Day two of the championship will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday at the Zesiger Center Pool with the finals starting at 6:00 PM. Events will include the 200 Free Relay, 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, and the 400 Medley Relay.
