No. 6 Men's Swim and Dive Adds Five More Wins to Increase Lead After Third Day at the NEWMAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 6 MIT men's swimming and diving team grabbed five more wins to increase its lead after day three of the 2026 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship. 

STANDINGS:  

  1. MIT – 1066.5 Points 
  2. Coast Guard – 670 Points 
  3. WPI – 524 Points 

HOW IT HAPPENED:    

  • 400 IM – Jason Wang won the event after being the runner-up last season as he clocked in with a time of 3:55.55. Kelson Cantrell finished second with a time of 3:57.53 followed by Ethan Fang and Mark O'Mara
  • 100 Fly – Bryce Roberts took second in 48.22 followed by Eric Huang (48.39), Zack West (49.25), and Nathan Zhu (49.59). 
  • 200 Free: Evan Wong won the event with a time of 1:37.98 while Aaron Martin finished in 1:39.40 for second. 
  • 100 Breast: Thomas Wu won the event with a time of 54.36. 
  • 100 Back: Aitor Arrese-Igor took the time spot with a time of 49.06 followed by Zack West with a time of 49.22 and Nathan Kim with a time of 49.43. 
  • 1-Meter Dive: Jack Tucker finished in sixth with a score of 393.50. 
  • 200 Medley Relay: Arrese-Igor, Wu, Martin, and Roberts closed the meet with a win in 1:27.81, besting Coast Guard by just under three seconds. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Wang and Cantrell earned B Cuts in the 400 IM. 
  • Roberts notched his third all-conference honor in the fly as he won the event in 2024 and was the runner-up the last two seasons. Roberts and Huang hit BCut Times.  
  • Wong's time in the 200 Free is faster than last year's invited time. He is the first Engineer to win the event since Jaden Luo in 2022.  
  • Wu set a meet record in the 100 Breast with a time faster than last year's invited time. He currently ranks 12th in Division III and bested his previous best time to rank third in program history. 
  • Arrese-Igor is a three-time winner in the 100 Back. 
  • The 200 Medley Relay time is faster than last year's invited time. Roberts earns his third all-conference nod in the event while Arrese-Igor and Wu earned their second. The time is the fifth fastest in program history. 

UP NEXT:    

  • The final day of the competition will conclude tomorrow, Sunday, February 22 at 10:00 AM at the Zesiger Center Pool with the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and 400 Free Relay.
