Men's Swimming and Diving

No. 6 Men's Swim and Dive Claims 20th NEWMAC Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 6 MIT men's swimming and diving team captured its 17th-straight and 20th overall NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship as the Engineers won the 2026 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship, winning a total of 13 events over the four-day meet. 

STANDINGS:  

  1. MIT – 1481.5 Points 
  2. Coast Guard - 1013 Points 
  3. WPI - 731 Points 

HOW IT HAPPENED:    

  • 200 Back: Zack West captured second with a time of 1:49.44 
  • 100 Free: Aaron Martin finished third with a time of 45.22 followed by Bryce Roberts in fourth with a time of 45.27 and Evan Wong in fifth with a time of 45.55. 
  • 200 Breast: Daniel Seong took the win in the event with his time of 2:01.71. 
  • 200 Fly: Jason Wang led MIT with a second-place finish (1:49.40) as the Engineers took spots two-six. Nathan Zhu followed in third with Eric Huang, Ian Sun, and Kelson Cantrell rounding out the finishers in sixth.
  • 1650 Free: Mark O'Mara won the event in 15:46.53, the first time MIT has won this event since Josh Graves in 2019 
  • 400 Free Relay: After falling behind early to Coast Guard during the first leg, MIT mounted a comeback as the team of Aaron Martin, Evan Wong, Bryce, Roberts and Nathan Kim ended the meet with an exciting relay win, just beating out Coast Guard by a second. The Engineers clocked in with a time of 2:58.56 while the Bears took second in 2:59.55. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • O'Mara hit an NCAA B Cut time in the mile swim. 
  • West was the runner-up in the 200 Back in 2024. 
  • Wang hit an NCAA B Cut time in the 200 Fly. He finished as the runner up in the event last year.  
  • The Engineers relay time was faster than last year's invited mark.  
  • MIT won all five relays during the meet. 

UP NEXT:    

  • Qualified divers will head to Connecticut College for the NCAA Diving Regionals which will run from Friday, February 27 – Saturday, February 28. The NCAA swimming selections will be announced on Thursday, February 26 on NCAA.com.
