SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Junior Justin Buonato swept the shot put and weight throw titles to lead the No. 6 MIT men's track and field team on Saturday at the Springfield College Triangle Classic. Paced by Buonato's performance in the throws, the Engineers totaled 10 top 10 marks on the day.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 60m: Chidubem Chukwu finished tenth in the prelim in 7.19 seconds.
- 200m: Davin Li recorded a time of 22.94 to earn a 6th place finish.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- Pole Vault: Jaden McKee finished as the runner-up, clearing 4.65m (15'3") to earn an NED3 qualifying mark. Sawyer Garrett also earned an NED3 automatic qualifier, taking 4th place by clearing 4.45m (14'7.25"). Ethan Soderbloom was 8th with a height of 4.15m and Cole Nguyen, also clearing 4.15m.
- Triple Jump: Fischer James Espiritu Argosino took 9th place with a jump of 12.64m (41'5.75").
- Shot Put: Buonato recorded a PR of 15.79, (51' 9.75") on his final attempt to win notch an NED3 automatic qualifier and win the event. Leon Takumi Schultz finished eighth with a throw of 13.25m.
- Weight Throw: Buonato completed the sweep with another PR, recording a mark of 16.75m (54'11.5") on his third attempt. The throw was an automatic NED3 qualifier.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Buonato is now 5th regionally in the shot put and sixth regionally in the weight throw.
- Saywer jumped up to 11th regional in the pole vault with his performance.
