Baseball Drops Season Opening Doubleheader to St. Olaf

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — St. Olaf College swept both games of a doubleheader as the MIT baseball team opened the 2026 season on Saturday in Winter Haven, Florida. St Olaf took game one, 3-1, and game two, 4-0, both in seven innings.

THE BASICS:

  • Game One: St. Olaf 3, MIT 1 (7 inn.)
  • Game Two: St. Olaf 4, MIT 0 (7 inn.)
  • Records: MIT 0-2 Overall, St. Olaf 3-0 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game One:

  • First years Dalton Chi and Giovanni Foster each tallied a pair of hits in their collegiate debuts but MIT let an early one-run lead slip away in a 3-1 loss in the opener.
  • Following three scoreless innings to open the contest, Foster drove in the game's first run in the top of the fourth, hitting a double that scored Zev Moore from second after Moore reached on a hit-by-pitch to open the inning.
  • MIT's lead was erased in the bottom of the fourth when St. Olaf put together a two-out rally to tie the game. Dex Pudduck singled to turn the lineup over before lead-off man Mason Buck tripled to drive him home and make the score 1-1.
  • St. Olaf added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as a Lucas Pusterla two-run single put the Oles up 3-1.
  • After working his way out of trouble in the fifth, St. Olaf reliever Jack Petit pitched around a lead-off double in the sixth and a pair of base runners in the seventh to earn the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game Two:

  • Christopher Woodside's RBI double in the second inning gave St. Olaf a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game two, as the Oles held onto the advantage before adding insurance in the sixth and seventh inning to take a 4-0 win.
  • MIT and St. Olaf combined for six total hits in the nightcap, as Woodside's double was the second hit of the second inning to score Kanen Kreafle after he reached with a one-out single.
  • With one on and one out in the top of the sixth, Breckin Hadley gave St. Olaf some breathing room with a two-run home run that extended the lead to 3-0. The Oles also scored in the top of the seventh, courtesy of a Calvin Keesler RBI single to move ahead 4-0.
  • Zev Moore singled to open the bottom of the seventh inning, but the MIT rally did not advance, as Tate Williams got the next three MIT batters in order to complete a two-inning save for St. Olaf.
