SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Scoring runs in each of the first three quarters helped propel the MIT men's lacrosse team to a 19-9 non-conference victory over Western New England University on Saturday afternoon. One of 10 players to record at least one point,
Riley Pierce led the way with four goals and two assists to go along with four groundballs and two caused turnovers.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After conceding the opening goal after 2:21 elapsed, MIT rattled off five in a row to go ahead for good with Zach Bleil accounting for the first and fifth goals. Western New England produced man-up goal at the 4:25 mark, but Bleil completed the hat trick and then earned an assist on a blast by Pierce, giving the Engineers a 7-2 advantage with just under three minutes to go. The Golden Bears, however, quickly found the back of the net.
- Western New England buried a man-up goal, narrowing the gap to 7-4 with 9:15 on the clock in the second quarter. MIT replied with another five-goal burst, resulting in a 12-4 halftime advantage. Garrett Campagna scored twice as Pierce notched a goal and an assist.
- The Golden Bears produced two goals early in the third quarter. However, the Engineers generated four consecutive goals, including three man-up tallies, to increase their lead to 16-6 with 3:20 on the clock. CJ Sanchez recorded back-to-back goals, with his second coming with a player advantage. Western New England won the ensuing faceoff and quickly ended its scoring drought.
- MIT had a 3-2 scoring edge in the fourth quarter with Bobby Jones being a factor in two goals. He earned an assist on a strike from Hayden Calabretta and then posted the Engineers' final tally with 1:19 remaining.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bleil totaled four goals, one assist, and three groundballs while Campagna finished with two goals and three assists.
- Sanchez registered three goals and one assist as Ashton Axe collected a team-high five groundballs.
- On the faceoff "x", Kaden Fenno was 9-of-17 while Mason Prettyman went 6-of-11.
- In net, Collin Lung made nine saves in the first half as AJ Sachwitz turned away two shots during the second half.
