BOSTON, Mass. — Anthony Meng took runner-up honors in the high jump, moving to fifth on the national qualifying list, to lead the MIT men's track and field team on Saturday at the River Hawk Invitational at The TRACK at New Balance.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 60m: Nolan Clement was 9th in 6.94 seconds, clocking a New England Division III automatic qualifying time. Patrick Haertel added an 18th place finish in 7.03.
- 200m (Invite): Kristian Praizner and Dylan Bradford took 33rd and 30th respectively for MIT. Praizner finished in 22.54 and Bradford had a time of 23.07.
- 200m (Open): Jack Wang was 14th in 22.41, leading five Engineers in the top 30. Enoch Ellis added an 18th place finish with a PR of 22.54 and Haertel was 20th in 22.54.
- 400m (Open): Rookie Ian Gerard was 13th in 51.42.
- 400m (Invite): Davis Lee was the top finisher among four Engineers in the field, taking 12th in 49.58. Connor Sterling was 26th (50.50) and Adam Eisdorfer recorded a PR in 33rd (51.56) and Wyatt Vick was 34th (51.65).
- 500m: Ayman Noreldaim took 16th place with a PR of 1:06.74.
- 800m: In his first 800m appearance of the season, Charlie Glass was ninth in 1:55.36.
- Mile: Chris Chan and Adarsh Ayer finished 38th (4:26.61) and 56th (4:33.06), respectively.
- 60m Hurdles: Enoch Ellis hit an NED3 auto qualifier with a sixth-place finish in the prelims in 8.27. Ellis went on to take 7th in the final in 8.57 seconds.
- 4 x 400m Relay: Eisdorfer, Vick, Gerard, and Noreldaim combined to take 12th place in 3:24.36.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump: Meng cleared 2.08m (6' 9.75") to earn runner-up honors.
- Pole Vault: Jaden McKee and Sawyer Garrett helped MIT earn two of the top five finishes in the event. McKee finished third, clearing 4.70m (15'5") on his final attempt at the height. Sawyer cleared 4.25m and 4.40m on the first attempt at each height but did not advance past 4.45m.
- Triple Jump: Sean Huckleberry locked up a fifth-place finish with a jump of 13.99m (45' 10.75") on his last attempt of the finals. Huckleberry also advanced to the finals on his last attempt of the prelims with a mark of 13.47.
- Shot Put (Open): Leon Schultz's first attempt traveled 12.85m (42' 2") and secured the first year a 7th place finish one week after he established a collegiate PR at the Harvard Invitational.
- Shot Put (Invite): Justin Buonato recorded a mark of 13.95m (45' 9.25") on his first attempt to take 15th.
- Weight Throw (Invite): Buonato was also 19th in the weight throw with a toss of 15.55m (51' 0.25").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Ellis moved to 31st nationally in the 60m Hurdles with his effort on Saturday. Ellis' time in the 60m Hurdles was his best of the season and is also the third best in the east region.
- Meng, who qualified for last year's NCAA Indoor Championship, is first regionally and fifth nationally in the high jump.
- Lee's time in the 400m was top five regionally.
- Huckleberry is now third in the region in the triple jump.
- Buonato ranks inside the top 10 regionally in both the shot put and the weight throw. He is fifth in the shot and sixth in the weight throw.
