CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A four-goal run in the second quarter put MIT ahead for good as it went on to defeat Roger Williams University, 13-7, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Thursday night.
Pauline Vien powered the Engineers' defense with 13 saves, seven groundballs, and five caused turnovers while Jamie Anthony tallied four goals, four groundballs, four draw controls, and a caused turnover for the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Anthony opened the scoring after 1:10 elapsed and then Molly Schmitz quickly increased the lead for the visitors at the 11:12 mark. MIT cut its deficit in half 45 seconds later when Annica Lam connected on pass from Ashley Thomas.
- A defensive battle ensued until Thomas produced a player-advantage goal with 12:43 on the clock in the second quarter, sparking the Engineers' string of four unanswered goals that resulted in a 5-2 lead. Thomas earned assists on strikes from Laura Day and Eloise Shin while Samantha Moorhead redirected a feed from Day.
- Anthony ended the Hawks' scoring drought with 4:29 remaining, but Moorhead found the back of the net with two seconds to go.
- Moorhead completed the hat trick almost two minutes into the third quarter. However, Anthony produced goals at the 8:31 and 1:39 marks, narrowing the gap to 7-5.
- MIT created some breathing room early in the fourth quarter when Shin scored on a pass from Alexis Reinard and Thomas buried a player-advantage goal. Allie Shamberger kept Roger Williams within striking distance as she trimmed the deficit to 9-6 with 8:46 left to play.
- The Engineers responded with a 4-1 burst to secure the victory. Reinard scored twice while Thomas notched a goal and an assist on a blast from Lam with 1:42 on the clock.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Thomas finished with three goals and five assists while Reinard recorded two goals and three assists.
- Moorhead generated her first career hat trick as Lam notched two goals and one assist.
- Mary Breckling produced three caused turnovers, followed by two from Gwen Flusche.
- Shamberger ended the night with one goal and two assists while Miranda Hayes compiled 11 draw controls, one goal and one assist.
- Cali Wilson collected three groundballs as Aizza Chase made seven saves.

- Both teams will be back in action with home games on Saturday, March 14.
