Men’s Track and Field Takes 33rd at NCAA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Anthony Meng and Tim Neumann earned All-America second team honors for the MIT men's and track and field team on the final day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The Engineers finished the meet in 33rd place in the team standings. 

THE BASICS:

  • Team Score: 33rd of 56 (5 points) 

TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:

  • Shot Put: Making his first NCAA appearance, Justin Buonato finished 20th in the shot with a mark of 14.39. Buonato recorded the mark on his first attempt but fouled on his second and third attempts and did not advance to the final. 
  • High Jump: Anthony Meng earned All-America second team honors with a tenth-place finish. Meng cleared 1.98m (6'6") and 2.03m (6'8") but did not progress past the 2.06m (6'9") progression. 

TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:

  • 3000m: Tim Neumann earned All-America second team honors with an 11th place finish in 8:16.25. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • MIT's five points in the team standings came from the fourth-place finish by the MIT DMR on Friday. 
  • Meng earned All-America second team honors in the indoor high jump for the third time.  
  • Neumann earned All-America second team honors in the indoor 3000m for the second year in a row.  

NEXT UP:

  • MIT will open the outdoor track and field season on March 26-28 at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State University.
