Big Fourth Quarter Helps Men’s Lacrosse Defeat Colby, 15-9

WATERVILLE, Maine – MIT outscored Colby College, 5-2, in the fourth quarter en route to a 15-9 victory in a non-conference men's lacrosse game on Tuesday afternoon. Riley Pierce amassed five goals and two assists for the Engineers.
 
THE BASICS:
  • Score: MIT 15, Colby 9
  • Records: MIT (5-4 Overall); Colby (2-5 Overall)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Bryce Metalios opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game, but Colby produced back-to-back goals to take the lead at the 6:54 mark. Bobby Jones quickly buried the equalizer and then MIT went ahead 3-2 after Metalios redirected a feed from Hayden Calabretta with seven seconds left in the first quarter.
  • The Mules evened the score 50 seconds into the second stanza, however, a pair of goals from Pierce created a 5-3 cushion with 8:04 on the clock. Both teams went on to trade goals as a blast from James Lukish that was set up by Theo Perkins with 12 seconds remaining gave the Engineers a 7-5 edge at halftime.
  • Colby cut its deficit in half at the 9:19 mark of the third quarter, but MIT replied with goals from Oscar Lindenthal and Metalios to increase the lead to 9-6 with 6:46 left. Over three minutes later, the Mules found the back of the net, but Pierce connected on a pass from Campagna to create some breathing room late in the frame.
  • During the Engineers' 5-2 scoring performance in the fourth quarter, Pierce netted two goals as Campagna produced two goals and an assist while Metalios added a man-up goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Campagna tallied three goals, four assists, three groundballs, and one caused turnover while Metalios finished with four goals.
  • Daniel Jones recorded six groundballs and one caused turnover as Daniel Patterson produced three caused turnovers and two groundballs.
  • Mason Prettyman won seven of 14 faceoff attempts and collected six groundballs while Collin Lung made 12 saves.
