Raleigh, N.C. — The MIT men's track and field team opened the outdoor season by competing at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State University, Thursday through Saturday at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility. Paced by Sean Huckleberry in the triple jump, MIT concluded the meet with four student-athletes earning top ten national marks in their respective events.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 100m: Nolan Clement (10.79), Patrick Haertel (10.86) and Chidubem Chukwu (10.87) each ran New England DIII (NEDIII) qualifying marks and finished in the top 100 along with Dylan Bradford (11.08). Clement was 60th overall while Chukwu's time established a collegiate personal record (PR).
- 200m: Davin Li paced a group of four Engineers with a time of 22.45 to finish 79th. Jack Wang (22.68) finished 90th,while Bradford (22.92) and Chukwu finished 94th and 96th respectively.
- 400m: Davis Lee (48.94), Kristian Praizner (49.29) and Connor Sterling (49.81) each opened the outdoor season with NEDIII qualifying times, finishing in the top 100 overall. Ayman Noreldaim was 122nd in 51.78
- 800m: Noreldaim ran an NEDIII qualifier with a PR of 1:54.40.
- 110m Hurdles: Enoch Ellis was 18th in the field in 14.57, registering an NEDIII qualifying time.
- 3000m Steeplechase: Jake Cobb finished 49th overall with an NE DIII qualifying time of 9:13.47.
- 4 x 100m Relay: Li, Clement, Chukwu, and Haertel finished 17th in 41.81. MIT's 'B' Relay of Bradford, Praizner, Sterling and Lee took 24th in 43.25.
- 4 x 400m Relay: Praizner, Sterling, Noreldaim and Lee were 23rd in 3:18.67.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump: Anthony Meng cleared 1.96m (6' 5") on his second attempt to claim 19th place. The height is an NEDIII qualifying mark.
- Long Jump: Sean Huckleberry was 42nd with a jump of 6.55m (21'6").
- Triple Jump: Huckleberry also competed in the triple jump, taking 17th with an NEDIII qualifying mark of 14.55m (47'9").
- Javelin: Jonah Goldstein's PR of 62.74m (205'10") on his third attempt was good for seventh place while Marc Baker finished ninth with a PR of 59.74m (196'0") on his second attempt. Both marks are top-ten in MIT program history.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Ellis (110m Hurdles), Cobb (3000S), Huckleberry (Triple Jump) and Goldstein (Javelin) all open the season with top ten national marks in their respective events.
- Noreldaim is 20th nationally in the 800m to open the season.
- Baker is 13th nationally in the javelin.
- In all, MIT has 10 individual marks and two relays (4 x 100 and 4 x 400m) that rank inside the top-50 nationally following the first week of competition of the outdoor season.
