PROVIDENCE, R.I. —  Jared Steins and Tim Neumann finished as the top two Division III competitors in the invitational Mile to lead No. 17 MIT men's track and field on Friday at the Friar Invitational, hosted by Providence College at the Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field. 

THE BASICS:

TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:

• 400m: Adam Eisdorfer placed 9th with a time of 50.97. 
• 800m (Invitational): David Whitaker finished 8th in 1:53.10. 
• 800m (Open): Chris Chan was 30th in 1:58.26 to lead six MIT runners in the event. Alex Naehu was 31st (1:58.31), Wyatt Vick was 33rd (1:58.48), Tage Mehta was 35th (1:58.90), Ian Gerard took 37th (2:00.62), and Charlie Glass was 38th (2:00.77). Mehta's time was a personal record (PR), 
• Mile Run (Invitational): Steins placed 7th with a time of 4:05.33, while Neumann was 12th in 4:06.80. Steins and Neumann were the top two Division III finishers in the event. 
• 5000m (Open): Achilles Shui finished 17th in 15:15.2. 
• 3000m Steeplechase: Luke Rupert placed 7th with a PR of 9:15.27.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

• Whitaker is now 27th nationally in the 800m. 
• Steins and Neumann rank 5th and 8th, respectively, in the 1500m thanks to converted mile times.  
• Rupert's time in the steeple moved him to 11th nationally. MIT owns two of the top 11 steeplechase times in the national rankings.
