No. 17 Men’s Track and Field Competes at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. — Anthony Meng, Jaden McKeeEnoch Ellis, and Justin Buonato each tallied runner-up performances as Meng and McKee both climbed the national rankings for No. 17 MIT men's track and field as the team competed on Friday and Saturday at the Tufts Invitational.

TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:

  • 100m: Nolan Clement placed 4th in 10.91, a New England DIII (NE DIII) qualifying time; Chidubem Chukwu finished 11th in 11.19; Jack Wang ran 11.38 to place 22nd. 
  • 200m: Clement finished 5th with a time of 22.06, while Jack Wang placed 7th with a personal record (PR) of 22.15 and Chukwu clocked 23.26 for 31st. Both Clement and Wang earned NE DIII qualifying times. 
  • 110m Hurdles: Enoch Ellis recorded a runner-up finish in 14.58, meeting the NE DIII qualifying standard. 
  • 400m Hurdles: Theo Orfanou finished 13th with a PR of 58.48, and Vedant Naik placed 15th with a PR of 59.57.  

TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:

  • High Jump: Anthony Meng cleared 2.02 meters (6'7.5") to earn second place and a NE DIII qualifying mark. 
  • Pole Vault: Jaden McKee finished second with a PR of 4.95 meters (16'2.75"), a NE DIII qualifier; Ethan Soderbloom, Sawyer Garrett, and Leo Sun each cleared 4.30 meters (14'1.25"), also meeting the NE DIII standard. 
  • Triple Jump: Fischer James Espirito Argosino placed 6th with a top mark of 13.26 meters (43'6"), a NE DIII qualifier. 
  • Shot Put: Justin Buonato earned second place with a throw of 15.79 meters (51'9.75"), a NE DIII qualifying mark. 
  • Discus: Leon Schultz placed 10th with a PR of 38.55 meters (126'6"). 
  • Hammer Throw: Buonato finished 6th with a throw of 48.36 meters (158'8"), meeting the NE DIII standard, while Schultz placed 18th at 37.60 meters (123'4"). 
  • Javelin: Ezekiel Dube-Garrett placed 7th with a throw of 52.40 meters (171'11") while Sean Nagle followed in 8th at 52.11 meters (170'11"), both were PRs and qNE DIII qualifying marks. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Meng moved to 14th nationally and 3rd regionally in the high jump. 
  • Jaden McKee is now 12th nationally and second regionally in the pole vault. MIT owns four of the top 12 pole vault marks in the region. 
  • Buonato is up to 29th nationally in the shot put.  
  • Clement and Wang both rank inside the top ten regionally in the 200m. 
  • Orfanou and Naik ranks 32nd and 37th, respectively, in the regional 400m rankings. 
  • Buonato is now third in the shot regionally. He also ranks fifth in the hammer.  

NEXT UP:

  • MIT will host the Sean Collier Invitational, April 17-18 at the Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track. Action on Friday night begins at 6:30 PM.
