No. 10 Men’s Track and Field Hosts Sean Collier Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The No. 10 MIT men's track and field team hosted the Sean Collier Invitational on Saturday at the Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track at Steinbrenner Stadium. Anthony Meng posted a top ten national mark in the high jump while the Engineers won multiple events on their home track.

TOP PERFORMERS – Field Events:

  • High Jump: Anthony Meng placed second, clearing 2.06 meters (6'9"), meeting the DIII New England standard. 
  • Pole Vault: Leo Sun led MIT with a clearance of 4.27 meters (14'0"), while Cole Nguyen added a DIII New England qualifying mark at 4.07 meters (13'4.25"). 
  • Triple Jump: Sean Huckleberry won the event with a leap of 14.01 meters (45'11.75"), while Sawyer Quallen finished second at 13.59 meters and Fischer Argosino placed fourth with 13.05 meters, as all three met the DIII New England standard. 
  • Shot Put: Justin Buonato earned first place with a throw of 15.44 meters (50'8"), qualifying for DIII New Englands. 
  • Discus: Leon Schultz led the Engineers with a best throw of 39.43 meters (129'4"), while Marc Baker (37.64m) and Justin Buonato (36.87m) followed. 
  • Hammer Throw: Leon Schultz placed seventh with a mark of 42.48 meters (139'4"). 
  • Javelin: Marc Baker captured first place with a throw of 57.56 meters (188'10"), meeting the DIII New England standard, while Ezekiel Dube-Garrett (47.22m) and Sean Nagle (46.68m) also competed. 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • Meng is now eighth in the nation in the high jump, he was the only Engineer to post a national top 50 mark on Saturday at the meet.  
  • Owen Sondag moved to the NCAA bubble with the 25th fastest time in the 5000m on Friday evening. 

NEXT UP: 

  • MIT will now begin preparations for the NEWMAC Championships, April 24-25, at the the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
