MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- MIT men's track and field sophomore
Owen Sondag has been named the NEWMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 19, 2026. The honor is the first of Sondag's career.
The Fargo, N.D. native earned a thrilling 5000m victory on Friday evening as MIT hosted the Sean Collier Invitational. He made a late move to overtake first place and win the event with a new PR of 14:23.69. Sontag's time is now best in the region in the 5K and has put him on the NCAA bubble at 25th nationally.
Sondag and the No. 9 nationally ranked Engineers will compete at the NEWMAC Championships on Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
