CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — David Whitaker, Enoch Ellis, and Luke Rupert each moved inside the top 22 nationally in their respective events as the No. 13 MIT men's track and field team hosted the MIT Final Qualifier on the final day of the 2026 regular season on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS – Track Events:
- 100 Meters: Patrick Haertel captured first place in the final with a time of 10.70, while Nolan Clement finished second in 10.74. Haertel ran 10.70 and Clement 10.80 in the preliminaries to advance, with Jack Wang (11.19), Chidubem Chukwu (11.23), and Sawyer Quallen (11.44) also competing.
- 200 Meters: Davin Li led MIT with a fourth-place finish and a PR in 21.68, followed by Jack Wang (22.38), Nolan Clement (22.40), Connor Sterling (22.79 - PR), Patrick Haertel (23.13), Chidubem Chukwu (23.14), and Ayman Noreldaim (24.14).
- 800 Meters: Whitaker paced the Engineers with a third-place finish in a season-best 1:50.11, followed by Chris Chan (1:55.63), Ian Gerard (1:55.69), Ayman Noreldaim (1:56.00), Alex Naehu (1:56.14), Wyatt Vick (1:56.17), and Charlie Black (2:00.69). Chan, Gerard, and Vick each posted PRs.
- 1500 Meters: Tage Mehta's PR of 3:58.31 was 25th overall. He was followed by Renne Cooper with a time of 4:01.58, also a PR.
- 5000 Meters: Dylan Fiegener continued to improve in the 5K, earning a runner-up finish with a PR of 14:22.90.
- 110 Hurdles: Ellis recorded the top preliminary time of 14.28.
- 400 Hurdles: Theo Orfanou crossed the line with a PR of 58.10.
- 3000 Steeplechase: Luke Rupert won the event in 9:05.34, while Gael Medina finished in 10:00.46. Both runners posted PRs.
- 4x100 Relay: The quartet of Nolan Clement, Enoch Ellis, Patrick Haertel, and Dylan Bradford captured first place in 41.29.
- 4x400 Relay: MIT's A team of Adam Eisdorfer, Kristian Praizner, Connor Sterling, and Davis Lee placed third in 3:16.88, while the B team finished fifth in 3:22.51.
TOP PERFORMERS – Field Events:
- High Jump: Anthony Meng earned a second-place finish, clearing 1.97 meters (6'5.5").
- Pole Vault: Leo Sun and Ethan Soderbloom both cleared 4.58 meters (15'0.25"), while Jaden McKee and Cole Nguyen did not record a height.
- Triple Jump: Sawyer Quallen placed third with a mark of 13.96 meters (45'9.75"), followed by Fischer James Espiritu Argosino at 13.18 meters (43'3").
- Shot Put: Justin Buonato earned a third-place finish with a throw of 16.62 meters (54'6.5"), while Leon Schultz recorded a PR of 13.58 meters (44'6.75").
- Discus: Schultz also recorded a mark of 28.14 meters (92'4").
- Hammer Throw: Leon Schultz posted another PR with a mark of 44.46 meters (145'10").
- Javelin: Jonah Goldstein captured first place with a throw of 62.47 meters (204'11"), followed by Marc Baker in second at 60.05 meters, Ezekiel Dube-Garrett in eighth at 52.24 meters, and Sean Nagle at 46.06 meters.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- MIT now has ten student-athletes who rank inside the top 22 in their respective events.
- Whitaker moved to 15th in the 800 Meters with his performance.
- Ellis is currently 21st in the 100 Meter Hurdles.
- Rupert is 18th in the steeplechase.

- The 2026 NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships will take place May 21-23, 2026 at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
