SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The MIT baseball team cruised to an 11-3 victory in game one before falling in extra innings in game two, 14-13, in a NEWMAC doubleheader on Saturday at Springfield College. Â
The doubleheader split sets up a NEWMAC Championship tournament rematch between the Engineers and the Pride, as MIT secured the No. 4 seed in the tournament, while Springfield will be the No. 5 seed for Wednesday's first round match-up between the two teams. The game will take place at Springfield's Archie Allen Field.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED - Game One:Â
- Game one was all MIT, as the visitors took a 6-0 advantage before Springfield got on the board. MIT had a 10-1 lead by the middle of the sixth inning. Â
- Zev Moore got the scoring started in the third with a two-RBI single to right center that scored Dalton Chi and Jack Finnegan. John Dwyer also had an RBI single as part of MIT's three-run third inning. Â
- An infield single from James Dempsey drove in the first of three MIT runs in the fifth inning. Dempsey eventually moved to third on a wild pitch that also scored Zev Moore before scoring on an RBI single from Maximo Del Pino. Â
- MIT starter Cole Foster and reliever Thomas Grisamore handled the Pride through the first 7.2 innings of the contest. Foster struggled a bit with control walking six in just 2.1 innings, but he did not surrender a run before handing the ball to Grisamore. Grisamore went 5.1 innings to earn the win, giving up three earned runs and striking out two. Â
- Springfield got on the board in the bottom of the fifth but faced an 11-1 deficit by the eighth inning when Del Pino stole second and Joey Severson scored on an errant throw from the Springfield catcher attempting to cut down Del Pino. Â
- Kyle Mitchell extended the game to the ninth with a two-RBI single for Springfield that made the score 11-3 in the eighth inning.Â
- Deven Pietrzak pitched the final 1.1 innings for MIT, giving up a pair of hits but no runs to finish off the Engineers' win. Â
HOW IT HAPPENED - Game Two:Â
- The Engineers earned an early advantage in a back-and-forth game two before Springfield scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take its first lead of the day.Â
- Dalton Chi homered with one out in the top of the first inning to put MIT ahead 1-0. Springfield countered with a run in the home half before the Engineers added two more runs, scoring on an Owen Malone RBI groundout and a Jack Finnegan RBI single in the second, to retake the lead, 3-1. Â
- The Pride pulled another run back in the bottom of the second on a Tyler Casey RBI single but two more MIT runs in the top of the third made the score 5-2. Â
- Nate Garafalo hit a solo shot for Springfield in the third inning to make the score 5-3. The Pride rallied all the way back in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run home run from Nicholas Lloyd that tied the game at 5-5. A two-RBI single from Casey later in the inning gave Springfield its first lead of the day, 7-5. Â
- MIT got a run back in the sixth, scoring on an RBI double from Dwyer to pull within one, 7-6.Â
- The Engineers continued to trail until the eighth inning when the MIT offense exploded for six runs on six hits. Finnegan, Zev Moore, Dwyer and Del Pino each drove in runs in the inning, as MIT eventually moved ahead 12-7 when Dempsey scored on a wild pitch.Â
- Leading by five runs, MIT looked destined to sweep the series, but Springfield scored six runs over the final two innings to force the game into extras. Kyle Mitchell's eighth inning grand slam pulled the Pride back within a run in the eighth inning. Â
- Dwyer added insurance for MIT with an RBI single in the top of the ninth but Adam Crocker and Jack Dunaisky registered back-to-back RBI hits in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score at 13-13. Â
- MIT went 1-2-3 in the top of the tenth before Jack Dunaisky walked it off for the Pride with an RBI single in the tenth. Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:Â
- Del Pino drove in a game-high four runs in the opener, going 2-for-4 at the dish with a double. He reached base four times in game two, adding three runs scored and an RBI.Â
- Dempsey had three hits and reached base on a walk in the opener to record his third multi-hit game in his past four outings. He added another base hit game two. Â
- Dwyer was 4-for-6 with three RBIs in game two.Â
- MIT used five pitchers in game two. Chase Rubin went a team-high 4.0 innings, striking out four. Â
- Six different Engineers recorded multi-hit games in game two, including Chi who finished 3-for-4 with two walks.Â

- MIT will travel to Springfield on Wednesday for a 3:30 PM first pitch in the opening round of the NEWMAC Championship.Â
- MIT will be the home team in Wednesday's single elimination game, with the winner advancing to the double elimination bracket on Friday. Â
