MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- MIT men's track and field senior Sean Huckleberry was named the 2026 NEWMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Meet following the 2026 NEWMAC Men's Track and Field Championship.
Huckleberry took wins in both the men's Triple Jump and Long Jump, his first time as a double winner at the NEWMAC Championship. He contributed 20 points to the MIT team's overall win, tied for the most scored by anyone on the squad. He added Long Jump into his repertoire just this winter to prepare for the NEWMAC championships, and his hard work paid off with a personal record of 7.10m at the meet, his first time over 7m. Huckleberry is currently 15th in the NCAA in the Triple Jump.
Huckleberry was one of 25 MIT student-athletes to earn All-Conference honors at the meet, with the All-Conference Team consisting of a first team and a second team, determined by student-athletes' finishes at the event, with first-place performances earning first-team all-conference honors and second-place finishes earning second-team all-conference accolades.
Additionally, MIT senior Patrick Haertel was awarded the NEWMAC's Laurels of Academic Excellence, recognizing the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the championships. Haertel boasts a 4.00 GPA as an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science major.
