Men's Track and Field

No. 9 Men’s Track and Field Takes Ninth at New England D3 Outdoor Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The No. 9 nationally-ranked MIT men's track and field team earned a ninth-place finish at the 2026 New England Division 3 (NED3) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Springfield College.  

Jaden McKee and Ethan Soderbloom finished second and third in the pole vault, while Season Huckleberry with second in the triple jump and Justin Buonato finished third in the shot put. 

THE BASICS:  

  • 9th of 34 (37 points) 

TOP PERFORMERS – Track Events:

  • 100 Meters: Patrick Haertel clocked 11.12 in the preliminaries to finish 23rd, while Chidubem Chukwu followed with a time of 11.19 to take 27th. 
  • 200 Meters: Davin Li led MIT with a fourth-place finish in 22.26, followed by Jack Wang in 22.66. Wang was 14th. 
  • 800 Meters: Wyatt Vick recorded a time of 1:56.94 to finish 13th, with Ian Gerard finishing close behind in 17th in 1:58.68. 
  • 1500 Meters: Tage Mehta posted a time of 4:02.91 to finish inside the top ten. 
  • 110 Hurdles: Enoch Ellis advanced from the preliminaries with a time of 14.51 but did not finish in the finals. 
  • 3000 Steeplechase: Gael Medina crossed the line in 10:08.29, taking 17th. 
  • 4x400 Relay: The MIT quartet of Wyatt Vick, Ian Gerard, Tage Mehta, and Jack Wang finished in 3:28.15 to earn a 14th place finish. 

TOP PERFORMERS – Field Events: 

  • Pole Vault: McKee earned a second-place finish after clearing 4.80 meters (15'9"), while Soderbloom followed in third with a clearance of 4.70 meters (15'5"). 
  • Triple Jump: Huckleberry placed second with a jump of 14.32 meters (46'11.75"), while Sawyer Quallen finished fifth at 14.07 meters, and Fischer Argosino recorded a mark of 13.19 meters to finish 13th. 
  • Shot Put: Justin Buonato took third place with a throw of 16.08 meters (52'9.25"). 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Soderbloom and Buonato each moved inside the top 50 nationally in their respective events.  
  • With two meets to go in the regular season, MIT currently has ten student-athletes across eight events ranked inside the top 25 nationally.  

NEXT UP: 

  • MIT will compete on Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9, at the Williams F.I.R.E Meet in Williamstown, Mass.
