MARLBOROUGH, Mass.  – MIT's Sophia Song was named the NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Co-Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 13. This is the first time she has received this award.
 
In a 3-0 weekend that saw the No. 7 Engineers capture the MIT Invitational title for the third year in a row, Song totaled 43 digs, 11 assists, and four aces en route to Tournament MVP honors. She opened the tournament with 14 digs, seven assists, and an ace in a 26-24, 25-12, 23-25, 25-20 victory over Brandeis University. Song posted 10 digs and two aces against Maine Maritime Academy (25-17, 25-23, 25-19) and then produced a match-high 19 digs versus the University of Scranton (25-22, 25-19, 27-25).
 
MIT returns to action on Friday, September 18 when it travels to NYU for the two-day NYU Mid-September Invitational. The Engineers will kick off the tournament by playing No. 12 Ithaca College at 4:30 PM.
