Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls Late to Salem St., 1-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's soccer team gave up a late goal to visiting Salem State in the second half and was unable to find the back of the net in a late match push as the Vikings claimed a 1-0 win on Wednesday night on Roberts Field.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: Salem St. 1, MIT 0 
  • Records: MIT (1-3-1 Overall), Salem St. (5-0-0 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Shikhar Motupally had a good look in the 32nd minute, but his shot was saved by a diving  Thomas Youden. 
  • Canon Robins had another good scoring chance for the Engineers, but his shot rang off the crossbar at 29:28. 
  • Motupally had another scoring chance in the 26th minute of the second half, but once again his shot was saved by Youden. 
  • A corner kick by Matheus Pelissari bounced around in front of the goal and deflected off a Viking and off the hands of Nicolas Santos-Shin. Anthony Oliveira-Dalicandro then collected the loose ball and lifted it over Santos-Shin for the game's lone goal with 9:20 left in the match. 
  • Motupally put another low shot on net, but Youden was able to corral the ball and keep the Vikings in the lead. 
  • A late corner by the Engineers was kicked around, causing a flurry of shot attempts in the waning seconds of the game, but Salem St. was able to kick the ball away and secure the 1-0 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Engineers outshot Salem St. 25-13. Youden turned away 13 shots for his fourth shutout win of the season. Santos-Shin made two saves for the Engineers. 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will be on the road on Saturday, September 19 for a NEWMAC contest at WPI at 4:30 PM. The Vikings will play at Westfield St. on Saturday at 11:00 AM.
