CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A goal midway through the first half off the foot of Jonah Gurion proved to be the game-winner as the MIT men's soccer team earned a 3-1 non-conference win over UMass Boston under the lights on Roberts Field on Wednesday night. 
 
THE BASICS: 

• Score: MIT 3, UMass Boston 1 
• Records: MIT (2-3-2 Overall), UMass Boston (3-3-1 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• Just under four minutes into the match, Jonah Gurion looped a pass to Woods Windham, who settled the ball with his chest and rocketed a shot into the corner of the net at 4:01. 
• Gurion collected the ball on the far side of the field, beat his defender, and fired a shot across the cage and into the back of the net at 24:07. 
• Ilya Davydov sent a corner kick into the box, where Max Cassidy rose above the defense and headed the ball into the net to increase the MIT lead to 3-0 at 69:39. 
• The Beacons capitalized on a free kick following an MIT yellow card as Parker Hamilton sent the ball into the front of the cage where after some deflections in front, Bryan Norena was able to kick the ball into the back of the net with 17:40 remaining. 
• UMass Boston continued to apply the pressure in the attacking third, but Nicolas Santos Shin made two great saves to secure the 3-1 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

• Gurion's three points marked a new career high, and his game-winning goal is the first of his career. 
• Windham leads the team with four goals this season. 
• Cassidy got his third score of the season and Davydov is now tied with Gurion for the team lead with three assists. 
• Santos Shin made two saves to secure his first collegiate win.
