Men's Soccer Plays Gordon to 1-1 Draw

WENHAM, Mass. – The MIT men's soccer team scored midway through the second half, but host Gordon quickly tied the match as a late push by the Engineers came up short as the teams played to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 1, Gordon 1 
  • Records: MIT (2-3-3 Overall), Gordon (4-3-2 Overall) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • MIT broke a scoreless tie when Jesse Hedequist sent a long pass into the box that deflected off the head of a leaping Charles Lai at 64:31. 
  • Gordon pulled even two minutes later as a long shot from Santiago Hernandez got past a diving Paolo Mangiafico and into the far-left corner. 
  • Shikhar Motupally recorded two shots late in the half looking to give MIT the lead, but neither was able to find the back of the net.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Lai scored his second goal of the season while Hedequist got his first assist. 
  • Paolo Mangiafico made four saves while his counterpart, Riley Calemmo made two. 
  • Motupally took six shots in the match with two on target. 

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT remains on the road as the Engineers will return to NEWMAC play with a 1:00 PM match at Springfield. The Scots will host Suffolk on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
