Katherine Cotton

Katherine Cotton joined MIT’s coaching staff in 2019, marking her first intercollegiate coaching position.

Cotton was a four-year goalie for the Nichols College field hockey team. During her career, she was a three-time Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Academic All-Conference Team qualifier and was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad twice. Cotton also played on the Bison lacrosse team, spending three seasons as a goalie before transitioning to defensive midfielder her senior year. She was a three-time CCC Academic All-Conference honoree and graduated ranked first at Nichols for wins in a season (seven in 2014) and career wins (15), and third in career saves (370).

Following graduation, Cotton returned home to Kennebunk, Maine where she was a volunteer field hockey coach at Kennebunk High School. She served as the head coach of the eighth grade girls lacrosse team at the Middle School of the Kennebunks and was an assistant swimming coach at Thornton Academy. Cotton was also the MAINE STYX head goalkeeper coach for all U12 through U19 teams in addition to the indoor, youth, and USA Field Hockey Future goalies.

Cotton graduated from Nichols in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in sport management with a minor in education. She is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in sport administration at Boston College.
